Venture Cocktail #3 today

After another successful Venture Cocktail, we’ve decided to keep up the momentum and hold the next event next week Thursday, the 14th of June. Plenty of investors and entrepreneurs have expressed their interest in coming, so I hope you can come too.

As for the venue, we will meet next week at the same place (Aya Bar – Heinrichstrasse 269 on Steinfelsplatz near Escherwyss tram stop, Hardbrucke train stop) and at the same time (7PM on).

Feel free to contact Elizabeth at 078 784 78 57 with questions and please pass the information on to anyone you think might be interested in joining us.

Please bring plenty of business cards, and I look forward to seeing you there!

Venture Cocktail

The idea for Venture Cocktail was born, like many great ideas, out of an informal chat. We observed, as many of you probably have, as we sat in the lobby of the hotel hosting Red Herring’s Venture Market Europe – a conference celebrating top tech startups and financiers – that some of the most exciting business gets done over chats like these – over coffee or drinks. That day in Cannes, my friends Prodosh and Remo suggested that I, with a background in media and public relations, should launch an event which brings together international entrepreneurs, investors, and innovators on a regular basis, to exchange ideas – to create an informal environment where people with common interests could gather for inspiring conversation. Though this is not a new idea, the setting is.

And what better place than Zurich, where the appetite for innovation is clear. While global companies such as Google, IBM, eBay and others settle in to create a critical mass for technology, the Banhofstrasse provides the financial resources for innovation. My role is simply to offer the glue to put the pieces together.

My plan is to meet at least every last Thursday of the month at a designated place in Zurich. Red Herring Magazine’s Farley Duvall will be there as our first supporter, as will blogger Remo Uherek (http://www.remo.fm – Remo about Entrepreneurship), Prodosh Banerjee, local technology entrepreneur and photographer Oliver Pages. No fees, no sponsors, and people will buy their own drinks. This will be an organic event which will grow as we do!

So, whether you’re an Investor, an Entrepreneur, an Innovator or simply Interested, join us for cocktails.

Report from Copenhagen (Reboot 9.0)

Last week I was in Copenhagen at Reboot 9.0.

The Metro is AWSOME, it is fully automated and you can sit in the "drivers seat":

Here we’re searching the station and playing with the trigami-dog

Link: sevenload.com

We even took the dog to the disco and talked to like 30 people about it – it’s a GREAT ice breaker ;-). Here is a Picture with Flavio with the dog.

Best/weirdest thing at reboot? Babies everywhere!

Coolest presentation I went to? Jyri about Jaiku (the finnish Twitter)

PS: Here is a interview with Flavio and myself at Reboot done by Charbax:

The first Venture Cocktail was a big success. There were about 30 people, lots of great energy, exciting ideas, and plenty of interest. Let me show you some pictures:

(Farley and Elizabeth)

Here is the invitation to the next Venture Cocktail:

Dear Friends,

The first Venture Cocktail was a huge success! The energy was extremely positive and all signs say the interest is there. VCs, Investors and Entrepreneurs alike seemed to enjoy the evening immensely. Thanks again to all who made it great. As promised, the next event will be the last Thursday of this month. So, the 31st it is! Same place, same time.

May 31st, 7PM – 9 or so.

AYA, Drinx & Talx
Heinrichstrasse 269 (Steinfelsplatz)
8004 Zürich

Tram: Escherwyss

Train: Hardbrücke

Elizabeth’s phone: +41 78 784 59 35

Email: eperry@perry-productions.com

We will try again to be outside. If the weather doesn’t permit, however, we’ll go upstairs. Hope all of you can make it.

This time, please bring your business cards, as we will use them to play a game!

In other news: we are building a web site for this event. Coming soon: www.venturecocktail.com.  The site will talk of our events and the people that make them happen. Like the event itself, it will grow as we do. We will have a links page where we will list attendees’/members’ web sites. Very excited about this!

memberYou.com – Managing leisure time

My friends Jonas and Roland launched their baby last tuesday with a big launch party with 150 people.

memberyou lets you manage your leisure time. You can find friends with the same hobby, join groups and plan and attend events together. Cool stuff about memberyou:

#1: memberyou was among the top 38 of SF Start-up
#2: They launched will full functionality (they developed the platform in the last 6 months)
#3: There are already more than 250 members (mostly from Basel)
#4: The team is great. I am convinced that Jonas and Roland are able to push this community to success.
#5: They launched with a remarkable launch-party with over 150 participants. The highlight was a live-conference call with soccer star Marco Streller (who is also a memberyou-member by the way)

Good luck!

I never wear ties

Read the whole story over at Zündstoff

PS: To make the tie-thing clear:
#1: I don’t own a tie
#2: I never wore a tie
#3: I will never wear a tie
#4: Fuck em ;-)

Remo meets XING

During my next07 visit in Hamburg I finally had a chance to meet Lars and Daniela in person and visit the XING offices at the famous "Gänsemarkt".

And of course I shot a little video podcast with Lars and apologized officially for all the troubles I caused. Now my conscience feels relieved and we’re best friends :-).

Link: sevenload.com

Thanks Lars for the invitation and the very nice diner on Wednesday.
