Exsila: Migros-Magazine Coverage Crashes Servers

GREAT news for Exsila:

1. Coverage in Migros-Magazine (reach: 2.3 mio readers) crashes servers. Thats the bad news. The good news is: A couple of thousand of new members in one week (now 28’000 and counting).

2. Exsila merges with Tradefarm and gains another 1000 users.

3. Coverage in CASHdaily Podcast. Rouven said in the video that the goal is to reach 100’000 members until the end of 2008.

This makes Exsila to probably the hottest and fastest-growing Web-Startup in Switzerland. Is anyone hotter in the moment?

Congrats to Exsila: 20’000 members in one year!

Congrats to the 20’000 members!

I am one of them (since September 2006) and a very happy one, too. My experiences:
# I’ve swapped 54 items so far.
# I’ve eliminated all my teenager CDs and invested the money in cool DVDs (mainly 24, Lost, Sopranos, O.C. California).
# I didn’t swap any books. I’m afraid of the high postal charges.
# I couldn’t swap some of my very old games and CDs due to weird barcoded that Exsila didn’t recognize.
# I’ve recommended the service to like a million people, although there are some very important features missing and the pace of implementing new features isn’t very fast. But in the end this doesn’t matter as long as the service works perfectly fine and the atmosphere in the community is awesome.
# I still cannot believe that Exsila didn’t internationalize, especially after they’ve received funding. With such a success solely in Switzerland there would be a phenomenal potential worldwide.

Yepnep AG: New Venture of Exsila-Founders

My friends Rouven Küng and Reto Bütler are doing it again. After Küng & Bütler Solutions GmbH, Osuru GmbH and Exsila AG they incorporated Yepnep AG (see public register).

It seems to be the same concept YesNoMayB.com has, but since the one posting on Techcrunch last year I haven’t heard anything else from the south-african startup. Here is a visualisation (you can see the "Techcrunch-effect" VERY well ;-)

Anyways, Rouven and Reto seem to be pretty serious about Yepnep, since they start with a joint stock company. Plus the name seems to be very cool and suits perfect: Yep = thumbs up, Nep = thumbs down –> it’s so simple, I love it :-)

Good luck you two with your new venture!

Exsila found investor and incorporated Exsila AG

As Exsila announced recently, Beat Schillig (Managing Director of "Institut für Jungunternehmen") invested 200’000 CHF (according to SF Start-up) in the company. As a result, Exsila incorporated Exsila AG on 11th June 2007 (funny thing, Exsila AG is only one day older than trigami AG :-).

In the meantime, Exsila achieved some
other major milestones:
# They now have over 10’000 members
# Their member-base grows 20% each month (i.e. 2000 members per month)
# They have over 70’000 dvds, cds, games and books in their system
# They started an attractive Affiliate program at Tradedoubler.ch

And, I have to admit that I am a HUGE fan and HEAVY user of Exsila (I have already 41 positive ratings :-). I love the style, I like the founders and I certainly like the free market system. Long live the trading idea!

Innosoft launches media trading service

With HOMEPAQ there is a new player in the media trading market which competes with Exsila, Hitflip et al. The media trading service is part of a software and web-service bundle called HOMEPAQ. The goal of HOMEPAQ is to help people organize stuff at home, such as recipes, books or dvds.

The value of HOMEPAQ is not straightforward. There are a gazillion of features and it’s very hard to get an overview of the value proposition. I needed a 30 min personal pitch of Paul Ryatt to "get it" all. There is definitely a lot of potential to make the whole thing easier to understand. The most interesting thing about HOMEPAQ is the integration of local software and internal and external web-services. Example: You use the local software to organize your book inventory at home (the software uses Amazon API, so you won’t have to put in all data manually). You find 10 books that you don’t want to keep anymore. So you export those books to the media trading service and get new ones (or dvds or cds) in return. The new items are automatically added to your local inventory, so you always have a complete overview.

The main question I asked myself is why to use local software at all (because I hate the unflexibility). My reasoning was: "We’re living in the web-service era, so local software doesn’t make sense anymore". And I’m still not 100% convinced that local software is the way to go for HOMEPAQ. What made change my mind a little was the issue of security and privacy. What if I could organize my financial data with HOMEPAQ? Would I want to do that through a web-service? I don’t know. What I know is that with services like Wesabe people are apparently doing so already.

Good luck to Innosoft with HOMEPAQ!

Disclaimer:
Innosoft is a customer of trigami.
