Very interesting podcast of Loic Le Meur with Martin Varsavsky:
I’ve just installed my La Fonera FON WiFi router.

The installation was surprisingly simple:
#1: Connect FON-router with power
#2: Connect FON-router with ADSL router
#3: Register the FON-router at wifi.fon.com
#4: Configurate your FON-router at fon.com (set maximum bandwith you want to share [minimum is 512Kb], change name of WiFi-signal, change the WPA-password etc.)
Now I can use the worldwide FON-network. Whereever I find a FON-Hotspot, I log in with my username and password and I’m online for free :-).
There was one downside about the Quick Installation Guide: No single word about security regarding private networks. I just assume it’s secure, but I have no clue about the details. At least one sentence such as "You don’t have to worry about your private networks. No one can access your private data or your shared folders" would be appropriate.
Peter Schüpbach has just offered us free FON routers. If you want one: Please sent Peter an e-mail to peter.schuepbach on gmail.
Thanks Peter!
I know about FON for quite some time now, and I always wanted to share my WiFi and get some free WiFi in return. But somehow I just never got a FON-router.
I was just browsing through XING premium world and I discovered the free FON-router offering. So I spent some minutes (and some extra minutes due to a sucky registration form which didn’t want to accept my street for five times, because of an error named "You must enter a valid address number") to get a free La Fonera.
I’m curious if it’s as easy as FON promises and if the sunrise terms of service allow such usage (I haven’t read them and I’m not going to).
PS: The XING-offering is limited to 2000 pieces. So if you’re a XING premium member, I’d get this free router better sooner than later ;-).
Update:
I got a request how I resolved the "You must enter a valid address number" problem and I want to answer it in public: I just tried different kinds of address combinations and different addresses. One time the street name with house number, one time street name without house number, one time street name plus additional street information (just fill something in) etc. When I remember correctly the time it worked I filled out every input field, i.e. street name plus house number, additional street information, the house number separately, the floor etc. Remember: You can enter every rubbish, because you can edit the information (especially the shipping and invoice addresses) later on in the cart. Have fun!
To be officially clear about it: That sucks! So if a FON-techie or other FON-guy reads this: Please fix the form or get the form fixed!
